Title: Watauga River Tailwater Tennessee
Post by: fishon2k on December 30, 2017, 07:27:31 PM
Took a quick weekend away to Boone NC
A short ride over the Tennessee border and we were in the Watauga in the frigid  cold (NOT my favorite)
Within minutes I was hooked up and constantly tight throughout most of the day.
I started out nymphing but halfway through the day it got a bit warmer and it seemed to stimulate a hatch.
For the next few hours I was getting rainbows and Brown's on dry flies before it got cold again.
There were many misses but also caught quite a few.
I want to try to get back when the weather is warmer.

Nice to get out anywhere this time of year. The only fish I have seen recently were dipped in soy and wasabi.

I would like it to warm up a bit around here and hit something local but it looks dismal for the near future

Thanks, I had a brown close to the same length but it was spawned out skinny and weak. I released it right away.
There were plenty in the 12 to 14 inch range too

I just had a buddy move down there. I shipped him some woodie flanks for a bed to stay in next spring.

I can't wait to get back there when it isn't freezing

Cold front for another week here
Dismal near future, I had the right shoulder done. I am not supposed to do much for a bit.
