So i've been working up the courage :lol

Scored three 3/0 blind eye alec jackson hooks...it's on

somebody outbid me :lol friggin ebay...anywho, I found some 8/0 (big boys) Adlington and Hutchinson hooks...that the seller bought 30 years ago in Scotland, and the shop he bought them in, the owner said the hooks had been there for over 50 years.

Partridge remakes these hooks, but these are original, hand filed shanks, points, etc...pretty neat

80 year old hooks :lol  Seriously, I have issues.  They are more Dee than Spey hooks, so i might do a Dee pattern like the Balmoral or something like that.

The gaff hooks arrived...that's a size 1, Mustad 34007 for comparison.  Gonna need a bigger vise...no seriously they don't fit :crazy.  Back to ebay to find something more appropriate lol...they must have some pretty fucking serious salmon in Scotland lol

So I've been lurking on the classicflytying.com forum...they rip people to shread for too many thread wraps and crap, anywho I digress, I was seraching 8/0 patterns, and even the most experienced tiers have only tied a few that large.

I don't own a single strand of anything that will reach from nose to tip of the tail in order to keep the proportions correct.

My plan was to tie a Green Highlander, as I love that pattern.  However, i've seen "doubles"...like Kelsons Black Dog, which is essentially TWO flies on one shank :lol  Go big or go home right?

I've been on that site before.

I have always been interested in the classic salmon ties. But I just never could just get into it. It drives me nuts to think that I'm tying something that won't ever be fished... EVER.. and that someone is going to look at it, and think... you used three thread wraps too many on that underwing.... :lol

maybe one day.

In all seriousness, the one thing I would love to do that I have never really done is just one major winter of tying up all the stuff I need... Start with Nymphs, then move to dries, then to bass patterns, then finish off with salt patterns and just stock up. I mean literally make a tiny fly shop display of flies for my own personal use. :lol

Came across this. It's a nice little patter. I really like the thing he did with the tail. Never EVER thought to do that.

Popham - im still on these classic patterns...my wife helped me put some flies away as we prepare to pack the house up.  We filled like 6 cabinet drawers of bass/pike flies :lol  I think I have enough of those...I guess thats why i'm interested in these classics so much, as they are complete departure from the norm for me

This is a pretty awesome weedless bug looking thing from this guy. I would love to see how something like works out on the water!

cool tie, ugly tie :lol ...but cool nonetheless

I always find these types of ties, when the fly is at rest it rolls over on one side because all the weight is above the water line.  Or they work like 10% of the time, the other 90% they roll over and get snagged, sending me into a level 9 rage because I can't tie a friggin fly that will just stay weedless and upright lol.
