Bear's Den Show - 20 Feb. 2016
« on: February 17, 2016, 11:14:41 PM »

Who's going and, more importantly, who wants to meet up for beers afterward?

I probably will not. If I do I'll have Zoey with me, and then there is the issue of the bus with the tiny kid etc. etc.

I was going to go, but we got to check out an open house, and I got the old hall pass for the night and headed into Boston with some friends, and i'm hoping to not end up arrested.

Shakey...just put the kid on the bus, its not the drunk bus or anything lol.

I should be there. Might be able to hang for one after but will have to play it by ear. Shakey go. I brought my daughter more than once. If you go a bit later the wait for the bus isn't that bad. The first hour or two sees most of the activity on the way there.

I'm planning to head down later in the afternoon and hope to stay for the drawing, then grab a beer.  If I win something, I want to be able to use it in Puerto Rico next week!

I'm out. today is my first 8 hour day since the swap and have a building shut down Saturday and Sunday. Making the wife rich :angry
Haven't been back to project since either. spent many hours fixing frozen pipe and steam and chilled water coils. Will be back to replace many more. Lack of proper maint. and power loss paying for my trip to AK. By Sunday will have logged over 80 hours this week.

The web page for the show has been updated to include the tyers and vendors along with raffle prizes to be available-

Looks like some great gear being raffled as always.

I'll probably get there around 2 PM and look to hook up with others at the bar afterwards.

Great show! Good to see everyone. Spent all afternoon there talking with various rep's and tyers. Seemed to really be quiet after two. Maybe due to the nice weather. The amount of raffle offerings seemed to be up from last year. Nice GLoomis short stick for Matt. A seven six nine ten weight. Didn't hang around for the raffle selection will have to wait until they post them online this week.

The show was good, I controlled myself and only spent about $50. I checked out a few new reels that piqued my interest (Orvis Hydros, Bauer RX, Nautilus X). I also ran into a few of the guys in the process.

I talked to the owner of Nautilus reels for a while. Even though I mentioned I was not in the market for a new reel, he was more than willing to shoot the shit about reel performance, materials, machining, manufacturing, maintenance, and any other foolishness I asked about. When I thought I had bugged him enough and was about to leave, he started pulling out manufacturing videos and pictures, then started pulling apart his reels and explained why they incorporated certain design elements. I know he was there to promote his business but it was nice to see an owner working a booth and willing to spend a good amount of time with customers. Sometimes it seems like I am bothering guys just by walking into their booth.

I was on my way out and the girl at the register encouraged me to go listen to Andy Mill's presentation on tarpon fishing. I took her advice and I'm glad I did. His presentation was excellent and he gave some great advise on how to target, hook, pressure, and fight big fish. His presentation was not only slides and self promotion, he shared some really interesting  intricacies of the fishery. In addition he used props to demonstrate some of his techniques.

Hopefully one of my tickets get pulled in the raffles.

It was good to see Mr. Scales after many years. I kept it pretty light too. some line, thread, a folder for streamers and a long hard look at that Nautilus NVG which I reluctantly left without purchasing.
Trying to buy less gear this year and hit the water more often, lets see how this works.

I too enjoyed the show. I met Tyler as I came in to watch Pat Cohen perform some bass bug magic. It was a very good demonstration of how to tie indestructible bass bugs. Spent some time talking to Pat, Rich Strolis, Mike Rice and Scott Hunter (Vedavoo). I hung around for the raffle drawing and don't think I won anything. Was also able to meet and speak with Dave Skok who gave me a few tips about tying his albie fly.
