I think variety is what you want...not just one type of insect.

Some types of flies would be pretty easy to create two patterns, etc...but 12 guys for a trout box, maybe something like this?

(2) Classic Dry
(2) Terrestrials
(2) Midge
(2) Wet fly
(2) Streamers
(2) Nymphs

I know if I got any of these selections, i'd probably tie two patterns (especially something like a midge)...I wouldn't make that mandatory though.

I wasn't implying "classic" as Catskills or whatever....just a standard dry EHC, Adams, etc...differentiating from foam grasshoppers lol.

That's what I'm getting at....foam hoppers are in the terrestrial category. Dry flies could be standard hackle dries, or CDC, extended bodies, or whatever.  Just wanted put terrestrials in there own group.

what about an emerger group? not sure where the line is between nymph/wetfly/streamer.  In my mind a nymph represents an aquatic life stage of an insect and streamer represents something with more meat, like a baitfish, leech, or crayfish.  What are wetflies?

I had wet fly/streamer as one...

by definition, classically speaking, a wet fly is anything thats not a dry fly lol...but in my mind I was thinking things like soft hackle wets, or classic winged wet flies, etc...

I guess techincally you can tie a midge nymph (buzzer), midge emerger, or a midge dry fly...

My only suggestion would be just to have fun, and tie what you think would fit in that category.

I'm a not a trout fly expert at all, so i'm hoping to not get anything but streamers hahaha

Here's a suggestion...
Everyone is assigned a type from Matt's list (dry, wet, nymph, etc...) and if you are inclined to tie a second fly, like Matt and I would, then it's a wildcard, meaning whatever you would like to tie in the trout box theme (streamers, terrestrials, propeller eggs, etc...)

Either way I'm in.... So I think we should figure it out over the next week or so. That gives everyone a month or so to tie, for february meeting?

The internet is hard over 55 :shitstorm

I thought that too for a bit, but I believe that if this wasn't a flyfishing forum, but porn, he'd be a MIT computer engineer.

The funny thing is he can only read my chipshot post at him here, he just can't figure out how to respond to the thread to fight back. :lol
