Next Year Swap Thread
« on: March 13, 2017, 10:35:30 AM »

So this is literally a year away, but I wanted to capture Trico22's idea for next year's swap.

Basically, we will somehow, or someone (probably tyler) will pick 4-5 materials (within reasonable price) and all materials must be used in that fly. You can tie a trout, bass, saltwater, whatever fly you want, but you must use only and all of those materials provided.

I would even potentially add the idea, that one other person gets to pick a random craftstore material as one of the materials as well. Something that usually isn't found in a Fly Shop. Again I think the only caveat here is that the materials should be cheap (don't want $50 MattB Feathers).

This is a great idea, allows us to go anyway we want, but still follow some sort of theme/guideline

I completely agree with the cheap component, mostly thinking of things we all likely have on hand.  I like the addition of some craft store, non flyfishing specific material.  Over the coming  months I'll pretend to work on compiling a list, though most likely it will be right before the swap announcement, if others are interested.  I thought it could be a good way to spark some creativity.

On a somewhat separate note, I saw a cool squid fly on the fiberglass forum.  Rear hook was tied like a basic squid head, some bulk with eyes and hackles for tentacles.  The mantel was just a large piece of mylar tubing tied onto a separate hook shank that was painted with glow in the dark paint.  It gave it a very cool look.

I will have to join in on the fun next year,  just been too busy to sit at the vise.   With specific materials for a swap it will make it easier for all.    Sounds great to me.

I think this is a great idea... except we should skip the flies. Dean brings his jalapeƱos, Matt makes his pork, and I show up late. Then we drink and go to Mac's 2... I've got a pair of sweatpants that I really don't know what else to do with. And, if anyone had to bail on the prior years swap... that person is required to purchase entertainment for everyone else.
