Fly Swap History
« on: March 13, 2017, 10:51:31 AM »

Want to provide a little bit of fly swap history here for some people that have no idea where and when this started.
I'm asking people to correct me if I'm wrong here, my mind is fuzzy. I tried to grab pictures of past fly swaps, but the other website has none.

There was and is another website called New England Fishing. A lot of current members were apart of it. I broke off into this sight just because I was tired of the personalities over there shitting on fly fishing and chasing away some good members. The fly swaps started there, with the core groups of users here.

NEF 1st Fly Swap 2009

The theme was Saltwater. The participants were
Trico22
JeffSkilz
Chris M
Shakeyfly
GillBuster
Alcorb
Mikey99(not a forum member I think)

I forget the bar, but I believe this was the one where we met at the Bar, and JeffSkilz couldn't drink because he had a paper temp license and they didn't believe he was 21. HAHAHA

Edit: ""instead, lets meet at O'Haras Food and Spirits at 1185 Walnut St. Newton Highlands, MA 02461. This location is closer to 95 and will be a little for people comming from the west to get to. We'll stick with the 4:00 PM Saturday the 21st.""

NEF 2nd Annual Fly Swap 2010

Warmwater - simi-seal leach
Chefskeez6
Coldwater - TBD
Saltwater - TBD
Warmwater - TBD
Matt B
Saltwater - Half & Half
Warmwater - Pike Bunny Fly
Coldwater - clouser swimming nymph

Again if I can recall, this was the one where we all received a pretty cool little fly box from GillBuster, with all the flies nicely assorted. This is where JeffSkillz Joke of me sending in a Crystal Meth fly comes in.
I can't find the thread on this at all. I'm 99% sure, this is the one where we went fishing at a pond. JeffSkilz and I were in a crawdad. He almost took my eye out. I literally felt the fly line slide across my contact in my eyeball. Not shitting you. It was windy as hell, Jeff Almost lost a brand new fly line to a trolling motor while the boat was slamming against the rocks. We caught blue gills, mini smallies, and white perch. I also remember Gillbuster almost crushing himself with a kayak that he was trying to put on the roof of his mini-van. Anyone know where this write up is?

This was the one we also met up and fished because of the Simi-Seal Leach. I remember Tyler crushing it on that thing that day and learning a new material!

OK FIGURED IT THE EFF OUT.

GillBuster had all of us send him the flies, he returned it in the cool packaging, and then we all met up to fish them at the Pond.

I don't remember. I don't remember if the first swap was the bar, Which I think it was and the second one is where we all met up and fished at the pond.

It was Ohara's I think, on Walnut by the Newton Highlands T stop.  Second swap we met up at Dunkies and fished Saudy Pond?  My 'LBS' was a little black stonefly

Yes!! I think you're right Tyler. good call. It was the second swap. We mailed in our flies to gillbuster, he sent them all back to us nicely packaged, and then we met up and the idea was to use the flies from the swap to fish.

There are some awesome ties done by all. Love that squid fly. Also like the descriptions written about each fly and how to fish them.

in all seriousness that squid fly is awesome. But I don't think Jeff has ever fished or tied up another one since. He tends to find or create sweet patterns, and then rarely ever tie them up or fish them again.

Jeff's Fly Box
1) Rabbit Strip Fly
2) Weighted clouser like fly
3) SkillzKrab (his own design)
