Fly Fishing Gripes
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:45:57 PM »

Since it's winter and I feel like bitching for a bit... I figured this would be a good place....

Here's my friends gripe...

"How the fuck is it possible that a Woman with less than 1 year of fly fishing experience is getting filmed, interviewed, and "followed". She writes a blog, probably casts like shit, but because she has tits, and a fly rod, she knows what the hell she is talking about."

instagram/facebook drives him into a nutty rage every few minutes :lol

your gripe, is another persons gripe?  thats deep...winter sucks

I'm not as "in" to fly fishing as all of you guys here, and i'm more newb than anything, so I know this is an old gripe...but 10x mark up on everything is nothing short of ridiculous :lol

A $500 reel, that is 1:1 with a disc drag is downright shameful :lol

I'd love to upgrade some equipment I have, but it just seems the middle of road is just way overpriced...

I guess I could sell all the other shit I have :lol

Fly fishing gear is way too expensive, I hear knuckle heads bitch about this or that because they THINK it is cheap or it's not made in the US....people like that are so full of shit, they drive me crazy. Like many of you guys, I use what I can afford...I have been at it a long time and I don't see a $500-$800 increase in performance from mid range to "top of the line" equipment. I take what I can get for the least amount of money out of pocket.

one more...on a reel that is 8/9 can I get something more than a little nub for a handle?  there's a chance I might catch something worthy of actually using the reel, and you got nothing to hold on to :lol

its so damn expensive to have good shit.  however, i have made a career out of bargain hunting.  chad is to ebay/bargain cave/clearance sale as crab is to ocean floor.  i clean that crap up.

My wife gives me shit because I NEVER buy new clothes...I like to wear rags because I don't care if they get stained or ruined...then I go drop a small fortune on hunting/fishing related gear and I get "The Look."  ;D oh well :chewy

People using spey rods on the salmon river.  It's 50 feet wide, you don't need a 100+ ft cast.

Thats funny.  As a joke i have always wanted to quietly step into Swift river Y-pool with a spey rod next to the 16 other guys staked out there,  then start winding up multiple snap-T casts as if i was on the Skeena.

I've talked about this with Jeff and others but I always wanted to put my pontoon in at the bubbler, and just use a spey rod and fish the hell out of the entire river down to the route 9 bridge
