I'm with you on that one Chad. I have all of his books and he is probably one of my favorite writers. A lot of people don't like his, but it's like listening to an old fart just tell stories about fishing with buds.

I love that Story. I really do.  It was AK best that said that to Gierach if I remember right...

I just finished the second one of his books last night, I'm a big fan. I am sure I will continue to plow through them. You guys are right, his stories are just like shooting the shit with someone you know. I love when he slides in there comments like "I was asked not to mention this place", reminds me of something I'd read on here. Its the same reason my favorite author is Hemingway. He writes the same way I speak, I like that.

Okay back to gripes...

I'm a huge fan of fishing videos and I think some of the new DVD's and stuff are really great...

but I really really really can't stand when these videos are trying to make fly fishing into either an Extreme sport, or some sort deep mysterious stoner-esque spiritual journey.

seriously...its weird.  but maybe if we go on the stoner path, a reel might not cost $600

Pictures of trashy models holding a fly rod.  Nothing wrong  with a trashy model pic, but don't insult me by trying to make it look like she knows what end of the rod a reel goes on.

What, you don't want to see Only the River Knows?

I can deal with just about any fishing show or DVD, so long as it has quality fishing footage (fly fishing or not).

the price of fly line.  gripe.

but cabelas in east hartford today has a number of 'interesting' lines on big sale......airflow clear ridge / SA streamer express / SA magnum taper / a couple of salt water striper lines.....all at least half off.  i couldn't find a single 5wt.  i'd have bought a 7 or some shit just to have for a future rod if i didn't need 2 dozen 9" suckers for ice fishing.  budget till the tax return.........gripe2 - budgets.

I feel this one...I got last years Rio Trout LT in DT4F for $40, though, and it took a lot of the sting out of it. ;D

I think my biggest gripe is people crowding me.  I don't see any reason you should ever get into a pool with another angler in it unless you've checked, and then double-checked, that it's okay.  I had a guy do this on the Nissitissit recently...saw I was catching fish and climbed down the bank to get into the pool I was fishing.  Got so pissed I had to leave
