Be nice to the bait guys
« on: August 22, 2017, 08:57:48 PM »

So last year I was albie fishing and a bait guy started asking about fly fishing and casting. I spent a bit of time talking to him about the technique and even hooked an albie during the discussion and demonstration. I ran into him a few times before the end of the year and we shared fishing stories and reports.

Fast forward to my first hardtail scouting mission of the year. I ran into him as I was heading off of the rocks and we chatted. Before I left he said "Hey, I have something for you." He told me his friend gave him an Orvis rod and he wanted me to have it. He didn't have the rod with him but was going to be working in my town in the future and he would get it to me.

Today I got a text, he was working about a mile from my house. I went over and he gave me an old, unused Orvis HLS 8wt with sock and tube. This thing probably never saw day light before his friend got it. Not only did I get a new rod, he practically delivered it to my house!

That's a pretty cool story Dennis

I guess I'll stop slashing the bait guys tires and insulting their mothers when I see them now.  Going to be hard, though.

I love the early Orvis graphites! When single handing that is all I use in the salt.

Oh I still slash their tires... I just leave a Post It with a smiley face on one of them.

I was in the Orvis outlet Sunday and found the same rod I was given.
