Nantucket Sound
« on: August 28, 2017, 06:57:57 AM »

The place is blowing wide open with bait and bluefish. Ridiculous. Got a number of nice blues on the fly yesterday. Fished both Saturday and Sunday and cannot believe how much bait and bluefish we found. Definitely some bonito around but the boat owner was with isn't into the chasing them. Went  to -Monomoy-and got some nice stripers too.

Best blue on the fly yesterday was twenty seven inches.

Nice Jeff - 27" blue on a fly must have been murder - Were you using wire or heavy mono

No, surprisingly I did not lose a single fly to cutoff and was not using wire. Essentially I opted to take my chances. I didn't bring along wire and was in a rush initially just using the fly and leader setup already on the rod. The skok mushmouth was getting a little thin by the end though  :lol

Parts of RI and Buzzards have been lit up with blues and smaller stripers too. Once the light starts to fade things really get rolling.

We drove all over -Nantucket-Sound- this time last year and could not find a single -bluefish. We were looking to get some to put in the smoker. This past weekend they were everywhere. A complete reversal which was nice to see. Lots of bait too. I think if you have a kayak or small boat Saturday could be worth a look off the South side.
