21 year old striper

Record Breaking News:
Today we received a tag recapture report from Montauk, NY, that breaks our Program’s record for “Time out”, or “Time at large” for a striped bass, with a Society tag.

The previous record held for many years (7 years) at 11 years 9 months.
On 07/27/2004, Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association member, Ed Kenny, tagged and released a 31 inch (FL) striped bass, while fishing at Newport, RI.
Some 13 years and 3 months later; Society member/ tagger and charter boat Capt. Ron Onorato, fishing aboard his Capt Ron out of Montauk, NY; caught and released Ed’s fish in good condition. Ed’s striper now measured 48 inches (TL).
No weight was taken, in an effort to get the fish back in the water as soon as possible.

Utilizing a striped bass growth chart compiled by MDDNR Marine Fisheries; Ed’s 31 inch fish was approximately 8 years old when first caught and tagged; making this fish 21 years old this year!
Consider becoming an American Littoral Society fish tagger yourself:

Damn it! The thread title wasn't a misspelling.

You're right. My apologies.  This is misleading to what could have been a much better thread.  I will be more careful with my thread titles in the future
