Salem sound schoolies, Thanksgiving day
« on: November 27, 2017, 09:40:52 AM »

So my girlfriend's parents live in an awesome piece of property overlooking Salem Harbor.  Their dining room gives an excellent view of the harbor, and- right in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner about 2:00, we see a bonafide schoolie blitz take off right in the middle of the channel, birds diving, the whole show etc.    I was surprised to see this so late in the year.  They chased a school of baitfish up to the channel mouth and then back down.  The action lasted about 30 minutes.  And not surprisingly, not a single boat out there to target them.

Here's a picture of the view - taken later that day.  Did not think it was appropriate to leave the dinner table to run out and get pictures of the blitz as it was happening.

wait you didn't have a rod and reel with you? Oh man, end of your fishing life as we know it. GF ruins everything.... Jesus a real fisherman would of had his stuff rigged ready to go.

Water temps in the bay are still around fifty degrees so it does not surprise me. I have caught schoolies in the surf off Nauset on Thanksgiving weekend in the past too.
