Eyes
« on: February 03, 2018, 10:42:48 PM »

Man I hate Winter. I recently reached a new level of boredom and made my own epoxy eyes. I know there is no real reason to produce dollops of plastic but what's a guy to do in the dead of Winter? I know we can buy these things for a couple of dollars but it was something to do.

I was working with epoxy at work and noticed an errant drop dried in the same size I might use as an eye on a fly. I have seen something similar, on line, in the past but had little interest. When I saw the clear drop I figured I would goof around a bit.

After an iteration or two I ended up with these. There are obviously better and cheaper ways to get eyes for flies but WTH, these were something to goof around with during the crappy winter.

I will use these, and the other turds I made before them but I doubt there will be more iterations after this.

Fish won't care either way.

Those look good, Dennis. What is the sheet made of and how are you making the black iris? I assume you're using a hole punch to cut out the eyes.

Dean,

The sheet is just plastic (polyethylene) that I covered with red Sharpie. The pupils are electrical tape that I punched out. There is no need to punch out the eyes, after the epoxy hardens they release pretty easily and take the color with them.
